5 Things you didn't know about engagement shoots

1 -You don't need perfect weather

2 -Make it personal- its all about you!

3 -It’s going to be cheesy

4 -Be adventurous

5 -Everyone is a supermodel

One thing is for sure, engagement shoots are always never what you expect! They always look dreamy and well planned: but we are here to tell you that is just not the case!

Okay we do plan our shoots and always have a list of curated poses at the ready for each shoot: but you can plan as much as you like and something unexpected will always happen!

Here are five things that you probably didn’t know about engagement shoots!

  1. You don’t need perfect weather

One of our lovely couples Mai and Joe are a brilliant example of this:

Literally ten minutes before this photo was taken it was absolutely chucking it down with rain! We both camped out in our cars just waiting for the rain to stop, we were literally minutes away from calling it quits and saying we will need to reschedule. Then something amazing happened…

The rain stopped! A light drizzle happened every so often while we were shooting but it happened to hold off literally until our memory cards became full. Once the card was full the heavens opened once again, it was like it was holding off just for our shoot!

We think that overcast skies are actually the best for natural lighting, no one has squinty eyes and it can create the most beautiful contrast in your photos!

2. Make it personal- its all about you!

If you pick an area that is special for you and your fiancé, this makes the photos even more special!

Ryan and Jess picked their local area for their shoot, literally we walked just a short distance from their flat!

We passed by this halal cart in uptown Charlotte and Ryan and Jess mentioned that the halal cart is one of their favourite places to grab a quick bite and it’s special to them, so we knew we needed to get a photo of them with it!

It was even better as this was their home which made them feel even more comfortable. These photos are memories for you for after you are married to look back on your engagement, so if you can show hints of personal details about your relationship that makes them even more special!

We even managed to get their adorable pup Rue in a few shots!

3. It’s going to be cheesy

Every photo looks effortless and I can promise a lot of effort goes into them!

We give every couple a disclaimer at the beginning of every shoot: it’s going to feel cheesy and awkward but just work through it! We promise it won’t look like that in the photos

We WILL ask you from time to time to attack your partner with kisses, practice your first dance in the middle of the forest, bear hug like you haven’t seen each other in years, and also try to whisper jokes into each other’s ears!

Caroline and Morgan are the perfect example of this as they DO WORK and create some beautiful shots.

These two were laughing the whole time and we know they had a great shoot!

4. Be adventurous

As you know there usually is a whole story behind an image, on the day of Harry and Abby’s engagement shoot, it must have rained the night before as there was A LOT of mud. We were ready to get through it as long as Harry and Abby were on board and we are so happy they did because their photos came out incredible!

What you don’t see in each image is the inch of mud on each of their shoes but that doesn’t matter because all you are focusing on is how much you can see these two love each other, and that is what an engagement shoot is all about!

   5. Everyone is a supermodel!

I think almost every couple we have shot have mentioned that at least one of them are not photogenic and they are so nervous as they don’t know how to pose or what to do!

Well, that’s what we are here for!

This isn’t out first rodeo and as we said we sit down before each shoot and research poses and create a folder on our phones of images that show poses that we think will work with the couple at their shoot.

We like to have example photos because that makes it so much easier for the couple that they can visually see what to do and makes the process smoother. It also shows an example that even if it feels cheesy we promise it won’t look it!

You all look absolutely FAB!

So we hope this has drawn the curtain wide open on the mystery that is engagement shoots, we know some people are terrified about getting in front of the camera. We are here to make fun and make the time fly by for you! We want you to leave being excited to see how your photos come out.
